Dr. Mesbahuddin Ahmed has had a long career in teaching and research. He had been a teacher in the Physics Department, Dhaka University from 1974-2013. Dr. Ahmed had his education in Dhaka University, University of Canterbury, UK, University of Manchester, UK, worked in Cavendish Laboratory, University of Cambridge, UK and also in the international Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Trieste, Italy. During his long career as an academic, Dr. Ahmed held many important academic and administrative positions. He was a Professor of Physics, Dhaka University, Dean, Faculty of Science, Dhaka University. Provost, Kabi Jasimuddin Hall, Dhaka University, Editor, Dhaka University Journal of Science and also the Vice-Chancellor, Jagannath University. He was elected a fellow of the Bangladesh Academy of Sciences, an apex body engaged in developing Science in the national and international context. Dr. Ahmed was also an Associate and later a senior Associate of the ICTP, Trieste, Italy, Professor Ahmed had also led a joint research project, funded by ICTP, Trieste, Italy called the Network Project with countries like India, Nepal and Bangladesh. Dr. Ahmed was a commonwealth scholar. He also obtained Nuffield Foundation Fellowship and commonwealth Academic staff Fellowship. Professor Ahmed also received Royal Society Fellowship to work in UK as a visiting Professor. He had been the Head of Quality Assurance Unit of the Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) at University Grants Commission.
